Giving up grains for two weeks may even be more beneficial than giving up sugar for two weeks. 

 

What is a Grain?

Grain is a seed of grass.

In a grain you have three parts:

1.   the bran, which is the fiber part, which has some vitamins,

2.   the germ part which has some vitamins-b, vitamin-e, minerals, and phytonutrients.

3.   The endosperm which has carbohydrate contents. It has some more b-vitamins, and protein (gluten).

 

Forgotten Benefits of Whole Grains:

Very few people are consuming whole grains. People don’t buy grains straight away, bring it home, germinate it, soak it, getting rid of the phytic acid, dry it out, grind it into flour, and then prepare bread from it.

Rather, people go to the store, and buy ready-made products.

Now, the definition of whole grain is a mixture of bran, endosperm, and germ. FDA said, if it is at least 51% whole grain, it can be defined as whole grain. 

But this FDA supported label “whole grain” would not make it healthy, if it lacks the essence. Even if it is a whole grain flour, you never know how old it is.

 

How Grains Lose Essence?

During the grinding process, many nutrients are lost, as it is exposed to air, light and oxygen. It oxidizes and destroys the delicate fatty acid, and vitamins.

 

Fortification of Grains:

Back in the 1920s or 1930s, they began fortifying grains by adding synthetic nutrients such as folic acid, B1, B2, B3, iron, and calcium back into the grains. It was done because, quite a few people developed a disease called pellagra, which is a severe B-3 deficiency, and beriberi, which is a severe B-1 deficiency.  

But, the quality of those artificially added nutrients was low. 

 

Grains and Stress on Digestive System:

Fortified grains are strenuous on your digestive system, despite this artificial induction of nutrients. When you eat refined grains, deficiency of certain nutrients take place in your system, especially of the B-Vitamin, and Vitamin-E complex.

Now, even if the scientists succeed in putting back the three B-Vitamins, what about the rest of the B-Vitamins? The absence of the other B-Vitamins causes a major strain on your heart.


Grains and Stress on Heart:

Another unheard-of Vitamin is B-4 (adenine), which is a critical compound, necessary in the regulation of cardiovascular function. It is important for both the coronary artery as well as the rhythm of heart. It is the neurological pacemaker of the heart.

Giving up grains for two weeks may even be more beneficial than giving up sugar for two weeks. It will shed stress off your heart, as it will stay in rhythm much easier.

Grains and Glycemic Index:

Refined grains are high in the glycemic index. Grains cause a spike in blood sugar and high insulin. Which in turn will result in weight gain, cognitive problems, less concentration and focus, irritability, lowered mood, anxiety, and tiredness.  

If you consume pasta, you will notice no immediate blood sugar spike, as it takes some time to break down. But after some time, if you check your blood sugar, you will detect a major spike.

 

Grains and Phytic Acid:

Phytic acid is a kind of protective mechanism of the seed to prevent it from sprouting. When you consume phytic acid without germinating or soaking the grain, you will have a difficult time in absorbing minerals like zinc, iron, and calcium, etc. So, by not eating grains for two weeks, your trace minerals absorbing capacity will increase.

 

Grains and Inflammation:­­­

Grains also cause a lot of gut inflammation due to gluten. It can cause pain in your gut, bloating effect, stomach ache, foggy brain, as the inflammation in gut can affect your brain, mood problems, anxiety and even depression.
